Cardiovascular Services

At CRMC, a number of tests can be performed to diagnose heart function and detect abnormalities.

Echocardiography – Accrediated by Icael

Using sound waves, our Registered Cardiac Sonographers can look at the heart, it’s valves and chambers to help detect any abnormal flow of blood through the heart and record these images for the Cardiologist to interpret for your physician.

This test requires that patient to lie on their side with a couple of EKG leads attached and gel for the transducer to help the Technologist visualize the heart. They record images and doppler sound waves of the blood flow through the chambers and valves to help detect abnormalities.

Gxt-Treadmill Stress Test

Patients are attached to the EKG monitor and walk on the treadmill to achieve their highest heart rate possible for their age. This is monitored by a nurse and the Cardiologist while this is taking place.

The results are forwarded to the ordering physician and if any further testing is recommended, this is also forwarded to the ordering physician.

Nuclear Cardiology Scanning

Patients are stressed either on a treadmill or with medication to achieve the maximum heart rate for their age. They have an IV started and are also injected with a radioactive isotope that allows the heart to be scanned and images produced and sent to the Cardiologist for interpretation.  This test can take up to 4 hours to completion.

Cardiac (Heart) Catheterization

This is special x-rays done of the heart by the Cardiologist after the insertion of a small catheter into the patient’s coronary arteries.  The patient will have a preliminary workup done 2 days before the actual procedure and will spend approximately 10 hours at the hospital on the OP floor for pre and post care after the studies has been performed.

The patient will meet with the Cardiology nurse 2 days prior to the study to view the educational tape about the procedure and ask any questions that may need to be answered prior to the exam.
